Map
The former market town of Wadebridge is another often-overlooked location, but is a great base for exploring many areas of Cornwall. The Camel Trail links it with Padstow and Bodmin, and it is also close to villages such as Polzeath and Rock. Wadebridge itself is a lively town boasting many amenities including a cinema, several local pubs which offer live music and good atmospheres, and a unique mix of local shops and businesses which make it stand out from many other small towns. The town's position on the Camel Estuary also makes it a good prospect for water-sports such as water-skiing, canoeing and sailing. Another talking point is the town's recently-acquired status as one of the country's foremost 'eco-towns' -many local people are advocates of renewable energy such as wind and solar power. This is largely down to the work of the Wadebridge Renewable Energy Network, whose aim is to make the town the first in Britain to be fully powered by renewable energy. Plenty of events take place in Wadebridge and surrounding area throughout the year, including the Royal Cornwall Show, and the popular Wadebridge Folk Festival. There is also a beer festival in June, and The Big Lunch, a street party organised by the town's residents.
