Welcoming solo travellers or couples, this charming getaway is a single-storey log cabin set just a mile from Porthcothan Beach, a sheltered, dog-friendly bay between the vibrant resorts of Newquay and Padstow. This quieter section of Cornwall’s coast is dotted with sandy beaches, including Treyarnon Bay (1.5 miles), where golden sands meet a particularly picturesque stretch of the coastal path. Continue around the headland to Harlyn Bay (2.5 miles) and Mother Ivey’s Bay (3 miles), while the dramatic Bedruthan Steps, with its iconic sea stacks, is just 3.5 miles away. Padstow (4.5 miles) is a lively harbour town with a variety of independent shops and a fabulous selection of excellent restaurants. Hop on a boat trip, or hire bikes and take to the Camel Trail for a gentle pedal through the countryside to Wadebridge. For even more seaside choice, head to Mawgan Porth (5 miles) or Watergate Bay (7.5 miles).

Turn on the side lights and enjoy a quiet evening with a good book or the Smart TV for company. When you start to yawn, head into the super-king-size bedroom with its metal bed frame and 400-thread-count sheets. The refreshing shower room continues the theme of combining rustic style with sleek, modern amenities.
The covered deck outside offers a place to sit and enjoy the fresh air or dine alfresco, with fairy lights as decoration after dark; beyond (down two uneven stone steps) is a gravelled area with further seating and a raised bed with attractive planting. The garden is private and enclosed, but please be careful of your footing.
