The Half Deck (the term for the portion of deck below the spar deck on a sailing ship) is a 1-bedroomed ground floor apartment in an attractive building offering flexible sleeping arrangements as a double or 2 single beds. Once part of the Cable & Wireless training school, The Half Deck is nestled in the picturesque valley in Porthcurno. The perfect spot to lounge by the sea, walk the adjacent coastal path or watch a performance at the Minack Theatre which is just a 10-minute walk away. Porthcurno was the site of the first undersea cable connecting Britain with India in 1870 and the Telegraph Museum is worth a visit to learn more. Land's End and the sandy, surfing beach at Sennen Cove are just 3 miles away. Porthcurno beach cafe is 3 minutes’ walk, ideal for morning coffee or a cream tea. The spectacular coastline spanning the southern edge of West Cornwall is home to some truly idyllic, picturesque villages and hamlets. From Mousehole in the east (where one of the county’s most impressive Christmas lights display can be found), along the coast to Porthcurno, where the world-famous Minack Theatre is located, right round to Sennen Cove and Land’s End; the county and country’s most south-westerly point.
The approach to Sennen is along a winding lane through beautiful moorland and as you start the descent into the village you can’t help but spot the white-crested waves heading onto shore making Sennen Cove Cornwall’s popular surf hotspot. With a mile of soft white sand and a picturesque harbour, the village combines a working fishing port with an easy-going surf style.
The area’s beaches are a draw for holidaymakers and locals alike and offer great surfing and safe bathing within flagged areas. A range of local independent shops, galleries, cafés and eateries are all within an easy walk along the seafront.
The striking cliffs and mighty ocean are contrasted by the peaceful countryside; enjoy both extremes or, for a totally different experience, explore the area’s mining heritage or take the short drive to Penzance and sample the shops, pubs and restaurants of the town. St Ives, with its art galleries, beaches and foodie culture, is just over half an hour’s drive.
