Local Area

On the east bank of the River Fowey, is the picturesque small waterside village of Bodinnick in the parish of Lanteglos. Bodinnick overlooks Fowey town and is at the start of the famous Hall Walk to Polruan.  Renowned for its surrounding beautiful countryside (looked after by the National Trust) it has become a haven for wildlife and ramblers alike with ancient farmland (dating back to Doomsday records of 1086) having changed very little since then - with its woodland, streams, working farms, narrow lanes, small cottages and stunning sea views it's no surprise it's a walkers haven.  Bodinnick is steeped in history, it is famously known for its old ferry crossing, and was once the home to Daphne du Maurier and is where Arthur Quiller-Couch spent much of his time tending gardens along Hall Walk.

The 14th Century ferry crossing use to belong to the manor of Bodinnick at Hall. It was an important point where horse-drawn carts (later vehicles) transported goods to Plymouth and London.  During the civil war this was used when the King's men marched along this route to meet the roundheads. On 17th August 1644 Charles I narrowly escaped death, when a shot fired along Hall Walk missed the King, killing a fisherman instead.

Whilst soaking up the history and atmosphere of this village the local shops and farms are excellent places to enjoy the local produce and recharge your batteries. The variety of local shops sell a range of local produce including eggs, vegetable, cider, local beef and pork, apple juices and Cornish Orchard.

We loved Mole’s House. It’s a house for all seasons. Beautifully decorated and furnished with lots of thoughtful extras. The welcome tray with prosecco on arrival was a lovely touch. And an advance phone call from Stuart, establishing contact in advance and ensuring we had directions was much appreciated. Too marks for our stay. Mrs Cliona Kearney - 11th June 2018

Lovely home, fantastic view, loved the tea, biscuits, milk and Prosecco that were left. All the extras that the home offered eg wood for Chiminea/log burner, we were lucky with the weather so didn't use it. Lots of information about the area.Mrs Rachael baines - 4th September 2017
