Reviews

Lovely property

Miss Ruth Price,

First class cottage fully equipped!

Mr M Perry,

Sue the owner of Merrilee made us super welcome and was on hand if there was anything we needed - which was unlikely as the house was so very well equipped and a real home from home. Porthleven itself is a lovely friendly town with a great beach and walks, plus lots of great cafes, restaurants and shops. We will definitely be coming back again.

Miss Ellen Fineran,

Beautiful cottage, spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, lovely and cosy (we enjoyed using the log burner during the evenings too). Perfect cottage for a family break. We hope to return and will definitely recommend to friends and family.

The Shingler Family,

Really lovely stay at Sues cottage. The space is very well thought out with lots of extra finishing touches. The bedrooms are a great size and the lounge is a perfect relaxation space. Porthleven is a great location for exploring south Cornwall and the cottage is within walking distance of local shops, pubs and restaurants. This is our second visit and we would live to return!

The Hewett Family,

This is a lovely place to stay, pristine and beautifully renovated. Modern finish but homely. Perfect location for walking to the harbour and beach and lots of wonderful cafes and restaurants to tempt you in Porthleven.

The Roder Family,

This is a wonderful cottage a few minutes walk from the harbour, where you will find plenty of local pubs & restaurants, all serving great food, craft ales and most importantly for us, were dog friendly. The cottage is plenty big enough for a family of 4, with everything you could want on a week away.

The Swordy Family,

We have had one of the best family experiences yet whilst staying at Sue’s place. Porthleven is incredible, everyone is friendly, the food is delicious and to top,if off, Sue’s place is right in the middle, a real instant home for all of us. Loved everything about it.

The Garfield Family,

Great cottage within a couple of minutes walk of the harbour and shops. Fully equipped kitchen which I was so grateful for as I did a pre-Christmas dinner for relatives and friends! Extremely comfortable beds and sofas, and an exceptionally clean and well-maintained cottage. The owner was very friendly and helpful but not intrusive- highly recommended!

Mr & Mrs Bassett-Myers,

Sue is a great host, bottle of wine and scones on arrival. The cottage is beautiful, it has lots of Cornish charm, extremely comfortable and clean. The cottage is a short walk from the sea front which has plenty of shops, cafes and places to eat and drink. I would highly recommend for a break away. We will definitely be back.

Mr Sparkes,

Beautifully maintained and perfectly kept cottage with all you could need for a stay in Porthleven. Great location with a welcoming host you will not be disappointed. Lovely courtyard garden for al fresco dining for the warm days and a wood-burner for the cooler ones. Would definitely recommend. Thanks for a lovely stay Sue and Ian.

The Jones Family,

We had the perfect stay at Merrilee and were very impressed with the overall quality of the accommodation which the owner, Sue, has so obviously put a great deal of thought and investment into. The quality of all the furniture and fittings are very good and the house is kept spotless, it's like it was renovated yesterday. Sue is a great host too and we pleasantly surprised and extremely grateful for the little personal touches such as homemade scones with clotted cream & jam which were devoured gleefully. Thank you so much, Sue, you have done a fantastic job with Merrilee!

The Dimech Family,

Map

Set on the west coast of the spectacular Lizard Peninsula, the little harbour town of Porthleven is the quintessential Cornish fishing port. Centred around the harbour, it boasts an array of cafés, restaurants and galleries and exudes a chilled, relaxed atmosphere. Porthleven is the most southerly working port in the UK, with fishing boats operating out of the harbour. This makes the town a great spot to enjoy some delicious seafood, straight from the fishing boats to the restaurants, it couldn’t be fresher!

Porthleven beach can be accessed from the town itself and provides a long expanse of sand which is separated into segments by several rocky outcrops. While away the glorious summer days relaxing on the beach with a locally made ice cream in hand!

Situated part way along a huge sweeping bay, it faces the Atlantic Ocean and is often on the receiving end of some mighty winter storms! A fabulous destination for a winter break; marvel at the awe-inspiring waves pounding the harbour walls from the cosy safety of the local pub!

The surrounding area doesn’t disappoint either; located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the views from every cove or clifftop are picture-perfect. Travel north-west and you’ll reach Marazion, home of St Michael’s Mount – an absolute ‘must’. South takes you to the tip of the Lizard Peninsula, Lizard Point, one of Cornwall’s most iconic spots.

You won’t tire of the walks and stunning scenery, but if you fancy a day out, try the Seal Sanctuary, Flambards or Trebah Gardens. Or, go a little further afield and you can explore Penzance, Land’s End and St Ives.
