Elm Cottage is an idyllic Cornish cottage retaining much of its original character alongside all modern conveniences and perfectly placed in the beautiful Cornish country village of St Mawgan. St Mawgan is set in the Lanherne Valley where the river Menalhyl flows through the village which boasts delightful cottages, a 13th Century church, two bridges, a ford and shops.  Enjoy a stroll along footpaths leading through the woods to St Columb or out to the coast at Mawgan Porth. However, a whole day could easily be spent wandering around the village, visiting the Bonsai gardens, the craft shop and possibly watching the local cricket teams play on the village green, finishing off the day with a Cornish cream tea in the tea garden behind the village shop.  Only a few minutes' walk to The Falcon Inn, a gorgeous stone pub with slate floors, an open fire for those winter breaks and pretty gardens to sit in during balmy summer evenings.

Local Area

If you're seeking a holiday in the archetypal picturesque country village, St Mawgan is an excellent destination. You can have lunch at the Falcon Inn, a traditional pub with a warm welcome and excellent menu, walk through leafy lanes, past the village green and cricket ground, visit the Japanese Bonsai Gardens and craft shop, and round the afternoon off with a delicious cream tea from the local Post Office and Tea Room.  You would never guess that it's a short drive from the town of Newquay or the nearby airport. Down the road, Mawgan Porth village gives you a complete contrast.  The rugged cliffs that border the sheltered sandy bay invite you to enjoy bracing cliff walks and eye-catching scenery.  If you get tired, you can stop for fish and chips, or a meal at the Merrymoor Inn.  There is also Merlin Golf Club, and a pitch and putt course for those looking for family fun!  The entertainment continues in the summer holidays with Mawgan Porth's Donkey Derby and the annual duck race- choose your (plastic!) duck and join in the fun! Nearby Bedruthan Steps is a further example of the dramatic and spectacular coastline for which the area is renowned.  When you've exhausted yourself with all these possibilities, why not pamper yourself with a luxury spa treatment at either the Bedruthan or Scarlet Hotels - you've earned it!

What a lovely, well equipped cottage. We had a lovely time and look forward to visiting again. Mrs M - 22nd September 2018
Elm cottage is set in a beautiful village with a good pub, super village shop/ tearoom and some super walks close by particularly to the amazing Morgan Porth. A lovely cottage in a lovely village and we would return if we ever plan to visit North Cornwall again. Some highlights - the 2 mile walk into Mawgan Porth, Bedruthan Steps and Fistral Beach in Newquay.Mr R - 15th September 2018

A fabulous stay at Elm Cottage. Very cosy kitchen, lovely rooms and a very friendly neighbour. The local pub and post office was a delight! Lovely cottage in a fabulous village. Local pub and shop superb. Great for dogs, lots of footpaths, easy walk to beach and access to south west coast path.Mr Gary Atkinson - 17th February 2018
We had an absolute fantastic time and experience and can't wait to book again next year! Mrs Sophie Ward - 16th October 2017
Like others, a fantastic stay at Elm Cottage. The cottage is so well catered for and equipped. Lovely walk to Mawgan Porth. Many thanks for sharing your home and we will be back again.Mrs Hunter - 23rd May 2017
1st stay at Elm Cottage. Had a wonderful time. Superb weather meant we could enjoy the coast every day; Watergate Bay, Bedruthan, Mawgan Porth, Padstow, Rock, Polzeath, Port Isaac. Came back each day to a home from home – so well equipped and cosy. Great kitchen, log burners well used! Thanks for a lovely week. Mrs Comber - 22nd April 2017
Lovely cottage and location. Especially good for the two cocker spaniels. Lots of walking on lovely beaches and visiting lovely towns and villages.Mr Jones - 4th January 2017
Cornish Horizons were fantastic and so was the cottageMrs S Lancaster - 23rd August 2016
This was our 2nd stay at Elm Cottage and we loved it even more than the first! Great 1st night at the Falcon (dog friendly). Spent the rest of the week crabbing in Padstow, karting at St Eval, breakfast at Fifteen and lots of dog walks on the nearby beach. Great walk from St Mawgan to Mawgan Porth beach. Hope to be back for a 3rd visit! Mr Coomber - 2nd April 2016
We have stayed twice at Elm Cottage and we are about to take our third break there. The cottage is great, well located in the village which has a great pub (the Falcon)and an amazing general store - try Rogers jams and chutneys! The wood burners are very efficient and if you leave the doors to the other rooms open will heat the whole house... Our Springer Spaniel has withdrawal symptoms when we leave the wonderful beaches at Porth and Mawgan Porth behind!Mrs O - 24th January 2015
Second stay here this year. Thoroughly enjoyed the house, village, neighbours and area. Cassie and Oliver (our two Cavalier King Charles) loved all the dog friendly beaches and pubs. Already booked for next year.Mr I - 9th January 2015
