Description

Nestled in the tiny hamlet of Engollan amidst glorious open countryside yet within 2 miles of the coast, Burgeys is a traditional Cornish cottage extended and remodelled and now offering modern living accommodation in a charming, quiet location whilst not being far from the wonderful choice of outstanding beaches and coastal activities in the area. Burgeys means Buzzards Keep in Cornish, look up and you may even see one of these majestic birds circling overhead.

A distinctive and unexpected open-plan living space is hidden behind the classic stone frontage. This huge sociable room hosts an enormous dining table, luxury fitted kitchen, a formal seating area and a full wall of floor-to-ceiling glass which lets the daylight flood in. Sliding doors lead out to the secluded terrace and enclosed garden – perfect for children and pets. Head through to the snug room for a more relaxed space with the TV and cosy woodburning stove. There’s a ground floor en suite double bedroom ideal for less mobile guests and three further bedrooms on the first floor, all designed with a contemporary finish and stylish décor throughout.

Nearby beaches include Bedruthan Steps and Porthcothan Bay and the famous delights of Padstow are accessible within a 20 minute drive. Reviews

My family of 5 plus one furry addition had a wonderful break staying at Burgeys, the cottage in beautifully furnished and very comfortable. The location is perfect for exploring all the local beaches, which in February are cold but glorious. We also visited the surrounding pretty small towns and the Eden Project which was a short drive away. We would highly recommended this cottage and will definitely be back, thank you!

Mrs Lucy G,

Porthcothan Bay is another of those locations which is just waiting to be discovered and explored. Within easy reach of Padstow and St Merryn, and a short drive up the coast road from Newquay and Mawgan Porth, the sheltered, sandy bay at Porthcothan is another of the many family-friendly beaches that can be enjoyed along this part of the coastline. It is also dog-friendly all year round, and boasts picturesque cliff walks and outstanding scenery. The area around Porthcothan is also home to a wide variety of sea birds, and the cliffs are often grazed by ponies and sheep, which helps with conservation of local plant life. The nearby village of St Merryn and the town of Padstow offer an excellent choice of pubs and restaurants, in addition to the local pub, the Tredrea Inn, which hosts live bands and also has a beer garden where you can sip your drink while admiring the superb views over the bay. Porthcothan Bay is also close to the village of St Eval, where anyone, whatever your age, can have loads of fun on the Karting Circuit, and when you're done, you can visit nearby Kernow Chocolate where you will find a wide range of yummy chocolate treats!
