Mawgan Porth and Watergate Beaches
Mawgan Porth Beach
Mawgan Porth is located 4 miles from Newquay and is well served by a pub, restaurants, a café and a beach shop as well as a surf school that also offers equipment to hire. Low tide reveals several rockpools and also a number of caves to explore.
This golden sandy beach surrounded by high cliffs is a superb family or surfing beach. Also worth a visit is the quintessentially English village of St Mawgan just a couple of miles inland from Mawgan Porth.
Parking: 1 small car park at Mawgan Porth.
Toilets: Just across from the beach.
Facilities: There is a café, a pub and a shop near the beach.
Safety: Lifeguards usually operate during the summer, though it would be advisable to check beforehand to ensure this hasn't changed.
Dogs: Dogs are allowed on Mawgan Porth all year round, although again we would advise checking before you visit to avoid disappointment. Information on bringing your dog on holiday.
Watergate Bay Beach
Watergate Bay is a large, sandy beach situated about 3 miles from Newquay, perfect for families and surfers. The Extreme Academy, one of Britain’s leading schools for surfing, paddle boarding, kite surfing and waveskiing , is located right on the beach. The 2-mile stretch of sand is ideal for traction kiting and the waves provide some of the best surfing in the country.
The beach is host to an array of events held throughout the year including the amazing Polo On The Beach, an incredibly popular 3 day event which is free to attend. With a beach shop, a café and range of restaurants, this is the perfect beach for all.
