Specialists in the finest local seafood (but with a great selection of meat and vegetarian dishes, too), Hooked! serves hand-crafted, original food to suit all tastes in a relaxed, sociable atmosphere. Tabb’s Restaurant

Chef patron Nigel Tabb trained in some of London’s busiest restaurants and his understated, intimate establishment on the outskirts of town epitomises modern fine dining. Expect simple dishes which allow the ingredients – from the best local producers – to speak for themselves. Everything served is made in Tabb’s, from the bread with your starter to the chocolates with your coffee.

Mannings

Mannings is a bar and restaurant set in a Grade II-listed Georgian building in the heart of Truro. Its stylish, informal restaurant is billed as modern cuisine combined with British classics. Main course choices include noodles, steak, fish and chips, chicken curry and seafood chowder, or you could opt for a smash burger and a pint – £20 Wednesday to Saturday lunchtimes. The lively bar is renowned for its extensive and unique cocktail menu.

The Longstore Lemon Street

With a menu based around steak, grills and seafood (plus a little pasta), all sourced from Cornish butchers and fishmongers, this is the place for hearty meals, or perhaps a bottomless brunch. The Longstore Lemon Street (the original restaurant is in Charlestown) is based in a refurbished Georgian townhouse, where the vibe is warm and welcoming, and the focus on the quality, freshness and sustainability of each dish.

The Alverton Restaurant

Around 0.5 miles from the city centre, the classy Alverton Hotel houses a two AA-rosette restaurant that offers a quiet spot in which to relax as you enjoy some superb food. The award-winning menu showcases the best of the South West, overseen by executive chef Nick Hodges, who trained under Keith Floyd and Jean Christophe Novelli. As well as the all-day menu, you can opt for a set lunch, afternoon tea, Sunday lunch or fizz ‘n’ chip Friday.

Sam’s in the City

Established in Fowey in 1988, family-run Sam’s now has four branches, with the Truro restaurant based in a former jeweller’s next to the Hall for Cornwall theatre. There’s a busy dining space downstairs, or you could head upstairs to the sophisticated cocktail lounge for a pre-show tipple. The restaurant works closely with local suppliers, and the choice of dishes is extensive, from ‘Samburgers’ to superfood salads, with seafood a speciality.

The Wig and Pen

Set in a historic building in the heart of Truro (refurbished by new owners in 2024), The Wig and Pen uses locally sourced ingredients for its seasonal menus, and focuses on friendly service, great drinks and delicious food. It serves a range of beers and ales from St Austell Brewery, and the menu includes bar snacks, pub classics and small and large plates to satisfy all tastes.
