  • With a spacious lounge offering stunning views across the harbour and out to sea

Property code: OC-CMOONR

Just metres from the harbour’s edge in Fowey, this top-floor apartment is a wonderful couple’s retreat. After a day out on the water, hiking in the countryside or exploring the town, return to its relaxing lounge and enjoy picture-perfect views across to Polruan and the sea.

Access the property, on the fourth floor of an Edwardian villa, via 60 steps through the garden and along a raised walkway - and it’s well worth the climb. From the spacious lounge the sea views are simply wonderful. Sit back in the loungers and enjoy the ever-changing sea vistas at any time of the day, from your morning cuppa to a nightcap. If you can bear to draw the curtains, there’s also a separate sofa facing the TV and DVD, so nights in will never be boring. The spacious kitchen/diner is light and bright, and has a dining table in one corner from which there’s an angular view of the harbour. The king-sized bedroom is decorated in pastel tones for a tranquil feel, and there’s a bathroom with a shower over the bath. As for outside space, you’re welcome to use the shared, sheltered lawn and outdoor furniture at the rear of the property.

The sandy beach at Readymoney Cove is around 150m away and it is less than half a mile by foot into the centre of Fowey to visit its variety of boutique shops, art galleries, cafes, pubs and restaurants. It’s all about the water in Fowey, and visitors can take advantage of the many maritime activities on offer such as kayaking, fishing, boat trips and river cruising. There are also numerous scenic walking and cycling routes in the area. The world-famous Eden Project, not to be missed, is only 7 miles, and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are 14.5 miles.

Clean, comfortable, lots of hot water, beautiful views, once you remember the 66 steps it really is lovely

The accommodation is perfectly located being around a 10 minute stroll from the town and also easy to get onto the coastal path; it had the advantage of great views, a decent sized parking space and was quiet. The property was spotlessly clean when we arrived and it was nice that some washing up liquid/cloths had been provided given there is no diRead moreshwasher. As other reviewers have said, the property could do with a bit of updating (namely the kitchen and bathroom). However, it was more than functional for our stay and the kitchen had sufficient crockery, cutlery and everything needed if you felt inclined to cook for yourself. The shower in the bathroom was excellent - instant hot water and powerful. There were a few minor negatives from our perspective: 1) No bathroom towels provided which is an inconvenience when travelling in a two seater car with limited boot space. 2) The arrival time of 4pm and departure time of 9am seem very mean-spirited! I know the cleaner needs time to do the amazing job she does but these timings are a throwback to Covid days and most have now reverted to a 3pm arrival/10am departure time. 3) Very, very small sofa in the living area - it was just about big enough for one person to sit on comfortably and watch TV but two was a bit squashed (and we are by no means large people, we just like to put our feet up and get comfy). A larger sofa or two smaller sofas would have been much more comfy for watching TV. 4) Bring a small torch - as is noted in the description there are quite a lot of steps to get to the property and once you are at the back of the main house area it is VERY dark with no lighting. The steps are dark wood so difficult to see at night. Although there is a light over the main entrance door and at the top of the wooden steps they are on timers and have gone off by the time you get back after eating out. Overall we had a great stay and the property was ideal for a week away - a few minor improvements would make it perfect. Hide
