Wake to Atlantic views at this welcoming apartment on Watergate Bay, where direct access to the seafront puts sandy walks and sea swims within 150 metres. Sleeping four guests and two dogs across two bedrooms, it’s a relaxing coastal base for families to make the most of Cornwall’s sought-after north coast.
After a day on the sand or in the surf, stash boards, wetsuits and other beach gear in the shared storage before heading inside. Decorated in soft, muted tones that suit its coastal setting, the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner keeps the sea firmly in sight through wide patio doors. Curl up on the sofa with a book and a mug of tea while someone turns locally bought fish into supper, then gather around the table to eat and break out the board games provided. At bedtime, unfold the sofa bed while the other guests settle into the king-size bedroom with its own TV. Come morning, run a bath, make a cuppa and step onto the balcony to watch the first light spread across the water.
Active families will relish the amount of watersports at their fingertips. Watergate Bay’s two glorious miles of soft sand are 150m from the property and are a must-visit for surfers, kayakers and paddleboarders. If you’re new to the water, the local surf school can help you get started. Walkers can pick up the South West Coast Path nearby and follow the clifftops towards Newquay’s seven surfing bays in one direction, or make for the quieter cove at Mawgan Porth in the other. For different scenery, drive to Padstow (12 miles) for Michelin-starred restaurants and access to the 18-mile Camel Trail, which follows a largely traffic-free route through the Camel Estuary countryside.
