This four-bedroom beach house sits high on the north Cornish clifftops with views over Portreath Beach and Gull Rock. A coastal base for families, it combines classic beach days – bodyboarding in the waves, a dip in the tidal pool, and shell hunting – with clifftop walks and local history. The rugged South West Coast Path runs along the clifftop toward Basset's Cove and the grey seal colony at Mutton Cove. Further along the coast lies the surf village of St Agnes, while Tehidy Country Park provides woodland trails inland and Bissoe Bike Trail offers traffic-free cycling. Lady Basset's Bath, cut into the cliff face, and the smugglers' caves at the shoreline hint at a pirate and smuggling past. Portreath itself occupies a steep valley between Godrevy and Porthtowan – a family-friendly cove often overlooked by visitors heading to neighbouring beaches.
This split-level home is arranged over three floors connected by internal stairs. Mid-century furnishings and handcrafted wooden details run throughout. On the ground floor, a wraparound conservatory frames views of the ocean, and the open-plan living and dining room beyond has two sofas, a dining table seating eight, and bi-folding doors opening onto the patio. The fully equipped kitchen sits alongside, with a pass-through window to the living space. The geothermal-heated pool room features a decorative handcrafted wooden boat, loungers, a seating area, a wet room, and doors opening onto a terrace. On the lower ground floor, one king-size bedroom has a sofa, built-in wardrobe, and sliding doors to a balcony. The second king-size bedroom has an en-suite shower room with shower and WC. Next door, the twin bedroom has sliding doors to the balcony and its own en-suite shower room with shower and WC, while a family bathroom with bath and shower also serves this floor. Down another flight of stairs, a fourth king-size bedroom has an en-suite shower room with walk-in rainfall shower and WC. Three of the four bedrooms have sea views, and a separate WC is on the ground floor.
The chequerboard sun terrace has armchairs and a coffee table with views over the ocean and Gull Rock. A second terrace off the pool room is furnished with rattan sofas and a coffee table. The balcony on the lower ground floor, accessed from two of the bedrooms, has a table and chairs for al fresco dining. The property is reached via a narrow, uneven lane with tight turning that is unsuitable for low-slung cars, and access to and from the beach is steep. Parking is available for two medium-sized cars at the property, with additional parking in the main beach car park.
