Visit the residents of the Cornish Seal Sanctuary (9 miles), home to those recovering from injury. The refuge also houses Puffin Island, where you can see these distinctive birds close up and the Animal Paddock, with pygmy goats, Dartmoor sheep and more. There’s a cafe and shop, and dogs on lead are welcome. Explore the beautiful exotic garden at the National Trust’s Glendurgan (15 miles). The 200-year-old wooded grounds with magnificent sub-tropical plants lead down to the lovely Helford River and house an impressive maze. Further afield, the excellent National Maritime Museum in Falmouth (19 miles) offers fun for all ages.
