Immerse yourself in the salty sea air, have a soak in the hot tub and just marvel at the family-friendly decor at this coastal retreat in St Austell. This pretty cottage is perfect for a family of four and, with only 3 miles to this beach, provides endless entertainment for little (and big) children!

This comfortable and spacious property features a cosy lounge for those evenings in front of the open fire with board games or simply relaxing with a good book and a cup of tea. Amble through to the kitchen to whip up a tasty feast of freshly caught fish and homemade chips. Dine inside or carry your dinners out to the shared patio, where you’ll also find a BBQ. When the night draws to a close, have a well-earned soak in the luxurious bathroom on the first floor. The roll-top bath will have all your troubles melting away! Head to one of the two peaceful bedrooms, including a double room or a super-king zip-and-link. Spend your mornings taking advantage of the private hot tub, on-site spa facilities or indulging in a treatment (additional cost).

Build sandcastles, have a splash in the sea or fish for crabs in the hidden rock pools at Pentewan Beach, just 3 miles from the cottage. With its golden sands and sparkling waters, it’s the perfect day out. Adrenaline Quarry (24 miles) is a must-try for those seeking adventure, whilst calmer personalities may prefer the slower pace of the biomes at Eden Project (5 miles). Sample local fare at many restaurants, cafes and bars in the town of St Austell, or go further afield to Truro (15 miles) for more delicious dishes.

We stayed in the Cornwall cottage for 14 nights and to be fair and balanced I will say that my review of the Cornwall cottage does not reflect upon the rest of the Cornwall Hotel and Spa which has beautiful grounds, a lovely hotel and spa complex and also benefits from helpful, friendly staff. The pool and spa is magnificent and it salvaged our holRead moreiday, it is clearly the jewel in the hotels crown. I would like to mention specifically the spa staff who are lovely and made every visit there warm, welcoming and enjoyable. Both bar and restaurant were also beautiful and served tasty food. The Cornwall cottage however, was at complete odds with the rest of the hotel. It felt run down and very tired. Inside, it is basic, like a travelodge really with enough basic items to allow you to function but thats it. The garden was also very unkempt and a bit of a jungle with old broken rusty furniture. We asked the hotel to send a gardener to come over when we first arrived and efforts were made to improve this which was appreciated, but it was beyond salvation and it meant we never really used the outside space or the hot tub as it was a little depressing and not very relaxing. I must also mention the car park is right next to the garden and so people would park right next to the cottage, literally inches from the hot tub and would often block our garden gate too as there didnt seem to be allocated bays and so people parked where they wanted. As the garden was not very well screened off it wasnt very nice being seen in your swimwear every time someone parked up. Also worth a mention is the busy main road which sits right next to the cottage, it was busy all hours of the day and was very loud and so added to the issues with the outside space, it just wasnt a nice area to be in at all. This is not the hotels fault i appreciate they cant help the position of the road, but it is worth being aware of it . We did complain to management about the garden who gave us some new garden furniture and sent the gardner over for a few hours so I have to say that some efforts were made. But otherwise we were passed back to the booking website regarding our complaint as the hotel said they dont have any control over the cottage? As the cottage is on their grounds and is maintained by them, this made us feel a little fobbed off so we didnt feel we could complain any further. I cant speak for the lodges and other accommodation on offer as to whether they were of a better standard than the cottage. I can say however that the lodges are situated in a much better position away from the road and car park and benefit from having the groundskeeper attend to them so appeared well manicured and presentable from the outside. So in summary I would recommend the hotel and spa but as for accommodation id stick to the lodges or hotel rooms as you are at least guaranteed the ownership of the hotel and the surrounding grounds are well maintained. However, Id give the cottage a miss. Hide

Cottage was in a nice location and hotel facilities were good. However the cottage is very in need of tlc and outside area was filthy and overgrown. Seating area looked like it hadn't been used in years and was filthy.
