Have been coming to St Ives regularly for thirty years. This property is on the much sought after Wheal Dream part of St Ives. You will get a peaceful bit of the town and a good view of the sea. If you rent one of the other properties on St Ives you may also get a lovely cottage but this wont happen if you rent 3 Wheal Dream. 3 Wheal Dream was a Read morebit of a shock when we first walked around it. After the shock reduced it was just a little depressing that (a) people can get away with charging over 1000 per week or more for such a property and (b) we had to spend the rest of the week in it. Whats wrong with it you may ask? Heres a brief list: - The place smells of damp. This is obvious from the moment you open the door and it prevented us from wanting to spend any time inside. The kitchen is particularly damp smelling. - The bathroom is a disaster. You have to bend your head to get into this tight area where a toilet, a sink and a shower hover closely together. You have to bend your head again to get into the shower which is no easy feat as you also have to make sure you dont trip over the step at the bottom (seriously). - As the light over the sink was broken, it was also pretty dark in there. Having a shower at any point became a bit of an ordeal and something we began to not look forward to. - The toilet upstairs is in a box you have to climb into. There is no sink. This is in one of the bedrooms. - The beds - all three of them (a double and two singles) are on the verge of breaking. They shake when you climb into them and the headboards of all three are veering dangerously away from the bed itself. - The kitchen has a massive beam running across the middle of the ceiling which you need to bend in order to avoid hitting your head. This means that you need to bend each time you cross the kitchen e.g. pick up the kettle, bend, fill it from the sink, bend, put the kettle on, bend, pick up a cup, bend etc - Once youve seen the property, the idea of having to pay a 200 damage deposit in advance is ludicrous. Heaven forbid you should do anything in the beds other than sleep as you risk breaking them and would then have to pay up. Instead of paying it, the 200 should be offered to every guest renting the property - you can hurt yourself if youre not careful. After that you have to deal with the lack of generosity of the owners or the company managing: - Only one key provided. If you are a couple or a family, please make sure you stay together at all times or you will need to coordinate your entrance to the property - Just a couple of toilet rolls provided Overall, the property needs a serious upgrade. There are some traditional objects - fire burner, old oven - but not much in the way of modern conveniences. By the way, you can forget the parking unless your car is on the small side. You risk a serious scratch otherwise. So what was positive? - Location - Err . going out? Our conclusion? If you want to rent a holiday property on Wheal Dream, hold out for another one. This smacks of lazy profiteering. Hide

No 3 Wheal Dream is superbly situated - sea views and very close to the little beach below, and easy walking distance from everywhere. It's great to have a garage space, although it was rather awkward getting in and out, but we had no need to move the car once we'd settled in. The accommodation is good - spacious and well equipped but with a ratherRead more quirky layout typical of many St Ives properties. We would have enjoyed the patio had the weather been better! All in all we would definitely consider staying there again. Hide

This cottage is in a fabulous location, and with some improvements would be well worth the money, but as it stands it's quite a basic cottage

The cottage was beautiful. Museum next door was a bonus as we met the curator who told us that his grandparents, parents and he lived there in the past when they had tin baths in front of the fire. Very interesting. Views outstanding too.

The cottage was close to all amenities but not noisy at all, a quiet location. The cottage was extremely comfortable and very clean. The garage was a bonus. We would love to stay at this cottage again.
