Property code: OC-BRE32

A contemporary apartment in the heart of beautiful St Ives, this property is perfectly placed to explore the historic harbour town. Sleeping four guests, plus one canine companion, this comfortable holiday home is perfect for a family or group of friends sharing. Set in a maze of narrow, cobbled streets known as Downalong, the property is within 200 metres of glorious Porthmeor Beach, and the town’s colourful independent shops, restaurants and cafes are just 300 metres distant. Beach lovers have a choice of four, glorious golden stretches of sand (dogs are welcome out of high season) and there are wonderful coastal and country walks nearby.

Enter the lower ground-floor apartment at the front via five steps, and a further 12 steps down to the hallway. Guests can also enter through the rear courtyard and in through the patio doors. Penny's Place has an open-plan living/dining/kitchen area. This has comfortable seating and double doors opening onto a private courtyard patio. There is a bathroom with a full-size bath and two restful bedrooms: a double and a twin. Outside, the rear enclosed patio has a table and chairs, ideal for a peaceful drink.

Porthmeor Beach is beloved by families and surfers alike for its vast expanse of sand and Atlantic rollers. Overlooking the beach is one of the UK’s four Tate galleries, a reminder of the artistic legacy for which St Ives is renowned. Tate St Ives stages major exhibitions and there are fun activities for children. Head west along the rugged coast to see the famous mermaid of Zennor (4 miles) and the remarkable Geevor Tin Mine Museum (11 miles). Discover the story of Cornish mining and explore the narrow tunnels hewed out by men and boys 200 years ago. Chyauster Ancient Village (6.5 miles) is wonderfully preserved, with stone walls and courtyards.

A great location and very useful outdoor space. Unfortunately we would not re book due to the awful quality of the beds and sofa. Such a shame as everything else was lovely.

We were very happy with the accommodation. Very clean and freshly decorated. There was everything we needed. Our only criticism is we couldn't work the heating but that maybe because it was too modern for us old people. Would stay here again without a doubt
