At a glance

  • A charming retreat, once a dynamite store for the local quarry and now converted into a traditional Cornish cottage
  • Tucked into the cliffside of Lamorna Cove with superb views of the coastline and out to sea
  • Luscious sub-tropical gardens with plenty of places to sit and enjoy a sunrise, sunset, or an al fresco meal

Property code: OC-MAGAZI

Enjoy extensive sea views over Lamorna Cove from this quirky cottage, a unique getaway for couples or small families, plus a furry friend. Its traditional styling includes a spiral staircase, wood burner and walls crammed with works of art, complemented by a modern bathroom and a kitchen with all mod cons.

Once the dynamite store for the local quarry, this detached Cornish cottage feels really cosy and has a historic feel, especially in its welcoming lounge. Here, exposed beams and a wood burner set in an old stone fireplace take you back in time, while next door in the kitchen you’ll have use of all the contemporary facilities you could need to help you prepare delicious meals. Dine either at the table that’s around the corner from the lounge, or in the conservatory, where you won’t be able to take your eyes off the ever-changing vista of waves and sky. On the first floor, accessed by a metal spiral staircase from the lounge, there’s a king-sized bedroom with doors to a decked balcony, and a small twin room, sharing a bathroom with a shower over the bath. When you come off the beach you can take advantage of the hot and cold outdoor shower, and there are terraced gardens with a series of decked areas where you can sit and admire the magnificent views.

Lamorna Cove sits on the coast between the quaint village of Mousehole, 2.5 miles, and Porthcurno, 6.5 miles. The latter is home to a stunning beach, a fascinating museum of global communications and the amazing Minack clifftop theatre. If you want to stay close to home, there’s a café and a pub in Lamorna, beautiful walks along the coastal path, and the Merry Maidens ancient stone circle is less than 2 miles.

The cottage is beautifully decorated with paintings and furnishings. The beds are supercomfy with fantastic views of the cove. The terraces are a lovely way to spend time eating out and enjoying the sunshine, loved the quirky steps up to the the top terrace, a hidden gem. The cottage is in a wonderful location, so peaceful, magical and mesmerising Read moreever-changing views. We had everything we needed for a truly relaxing break. Even Rosie the Robin perched herself on the outside table and enjoyed some breakfast with us every morning. This place is steeped in history with coastal walks on the doorstep. Plenty of different amenities close by. We met local artists Vicky Norman and Steve walker on the beach painting, lovely to see. It's an artists paradise here. Visited Mousehole,Newlyn,Buryan all lovely places. We would highly recommend this cottage and we are already thinking about booking again. Thankyou to the owners for letting us stay in what I would describe as a little piece of paradise. X Hide

This house is in a stunning location. It's well arranged and you feel like you're in a real holiday home and can relax. It's toasty warm. The gardens are stunning. We know Lamorna so expected to travel to eat so the lack of hospitality at the Wink was no hardship. The car spaces with the house are totally adequate for two small cars - no need foRead morer extra permits. Thank you for your hospitality and sharing this special place. Hide

Stunning location for a get away from it all holiday. The cottage has beautiful and unusual gardens and loads of separate areas to relax and chill out. The outside shower was much appreciated after getting back from swimming or diving in the cove. The only thing I think worth pointing out is that the parking ramp directly below the cottage is eaRead moresily long enough for two cars, but is quite narrow which may be an issue with the trend towards ever wider cars - my car is 1951mm wide and just made it in. The main thing going for The Magazine is its position over looking the Cove. But it's also a very comfortable and traditional cottage. It's well equipped inside and out and has good WiFi. In the winter the cafe is closed and the pub only opens at weekends but there's plenty of places to go in Mousehole (a hour or so walk), Newlyn and Penzance

We loved the location and cottage and have rebooked for summer - just a little improvement on cleanliness would make it perfect.

The cottage and location were both wonderful, just a short stroll to the cove and fell asleep to the sound of the waves crashing against the shore. Sebastian at Original Cottages was extremely helpful with updating our parking details and emailing to confirm, nothing was too much trouble. Hope to be back very soon
