Take wildlife lovers and dogs to enjoy the Cornish coast and stay in this restored fishers’ cottage and loft. You’ll be in the village of Porthleven, which has retained its original trade, so you’ll find plenty of fresh fish to eat, plus opportunities to explore nature and enjoy water sports.

The ground floor of this property is devoted to the living areas. There’s a lounge/diner and a kitchen with a hatch so you can see and communicate easily between the rooms. You’ll see a wood burner to make everything feel cosier and really enhance the history of the place. Up on the first floor you’ll find three bedrooms. There’s a double and two singles, which makes this perfect for a family with older children. Separate from the main cottage but included in your booking is a two-tier loft, where you’ll notice a further lounge/diner and a bathroom with a slipper bath for soaking away your troubles and find a twin bedroom upstairs. The loft is an original feature, previously used to store nets. At the front of the cottage is a courtyard, and behind you’ll find a shared patio with a seating area.

Porthleven is a friendly hub with lots of fresh fish, places to get food and small shops. You can take boats out to catch your dinner, or do other water sports including kayaking, paddleboarding and coasteering. If you’d like to see animals, travel 13.5 miles to Godrevy National Trust where you can spot wild seals, go surfing and find stone age settlements, or try National Trust Lizard Point for grey seals, basking sharks, Cornish choughs, porpoises, sunfish, dolphins and whales. Penwith Heritage Coast has wild ponies and castle ruins. Alternatively, visit the Cornish Seal Sanctuary for sea lions, penguins, otters and more seals.

We spent a lovely week in this cottage. It was everything we expected, beds were very comfortable and the sofas were also comfortable.

The kitchen is perfect for everything, including space and cooking needs. Bedding and comfort are very good. It's a cold building with some damp mostly in the bathroom.

We have just returned from a very enjoyable stay in Fishermans Cottage with its perfect location and outdoor space (rare for the area). The cottage is well equipped and comfortable for four with the net loft space (+2) across the courtyard even better than the cottage! However the stairs were not just steep but have uneven tread spacing and head rRead moreestrictions top and bottom which was a problem for us. The kitchen and bathrooms are a little tired and the kitchen cabinets also smell musty which meant we were reluctant to put crockery and glasses away. Hide

What a wonderful location! Whether you are looking to explore further afield, or stick to the area close by there is lots to do. We stayed as a three generation family and were well accommodated across the two buildings. We had read comments about dampness but would expect some in an old cottage building. However, once doors/windows were opened, anRead morey musty smells soon disappeared. Comfy beds ensured everyone had a good nights sleep after a relaxing bath, or shower. It was a bit tight for the six of us to share the main buildings living room but plenty of room when we incorporated the lounge space in the net loft. Photos of the sleeping space here do not do justice to a spacious loft with plenty of storage space. As to parking - space is minimal by the cottage but only a two minute walk to long stay car park where a weekly ticket cost us 15.80 However, in busy times spaces can be very limited here, At such times, we ventured a little further into town and found street parking within easy walking distance so never a big issue. Appearance a bit tatty and could do with refresh. Damp smell in property, improved through the week with airing and air fresheners but never totally gone. Great location in village and well equipped.

Would highly recommend Fishermans Cottage. The separate Net Loft provides flexibility for family/friends. Both outside seating areas are lovely and cosy. The cottage is in an ideal location for all amenities in Porthleven and is perfect for easy access to the harbour. This is our second time staying here, will definitely look to booking again.

Such a pretty & authentic little cottage with the added extra of the 'Loft'. Everything you need for a home from home experience including washing machine, dishwasher etc. 3, lovely size bedrooms in the main house, a good size shower room and a very well equipped kitchen made our stay comfortable. The welcome pack was very gratefully received and tRead morehe cottage as a whole was very clean. Porthleven is a lovely village and is beautifully lit up around the harbour at night. Despite the weather (it was in Feb after all!), we enjoyed our stay. We may look to return when it's a bit warmer. Hide

Had a fabulous Christmas stay at Fishermans Cottage. Wed arrived after a super quick journey from Sheffield and was looking to kill time before we could get in the cottage at 4pm so was delighted when we got a phone call at 1pm to say we could go in as soon as we were ready. It was decorated for Christmas which was lovely and the flowers, card, minRead morece pies, clotted cream, milk and teabags was a really lovely touch and much appreciated. It is a very cosy cottage and very well equipped with every single pot, pan, utensil etc you could need. There were five of us including two teenagers who loved the separate net loft and the space and independence it gave them. The location of the cottage is the best bit, so close to the harbour and everything that Porthleven has to offer. After unloading the car we moved it to the car park behind Pengellys supermarket where it cost 3.50 per day to park. The cottage is obviously very old and doesnt have the insulation etc of modern properties and as previous reviews Id read there is a fusty smell its not horrendous though and some Christmas candles burning soon freshened it up. When I booked this cottage Id not appreciated how low the ceilings would be and my 66 husband really suffered with many banged heads so sadly it wont be a cottage wed be able to return to but would definitely recommend to not so tall people as a perfect base to explore Porthleven and the surrounding area.
