Take wildlife lovers and dogs to enjoy the Cornish coast and stay in this restored fishers’ cottage and loft. You’ll be in the village of Porthleven, which has retained its original trade, so you’ll find plenty of fresh fish to eat, plus opportunities to explore nature and enjoy water sports.
The ground floor of this property is devoted to the living areas. There’s a lounge/diner and a kitchen with a hatch so you can see and communicate easily between the rooms. You’ll see a wood burner to make everything feel cosier and really enhance the history of the place. Up on the first floor you’ll find three bedrooms. There’s a double and two singles, which makes this perfect for a family with older children. Separate from the main cottage but included in your booking is a two-tier loft, where you’ll notice a further lounge/diner and a bathroom with a slipper bath for soaking away your troubles and find a twin bedroom upstairs. The loft is an original feature, previously used to store nets. At the front of the cottage is a courtyard, and behind you’ll find a shared patio with a seating area.
Porthleven is a friendly hub with lots of fresh fish, places to get food and small shops. You can take boats out to catch your dinner, or do other water sports including kayaking, paddleboarding and coasteering. If you’d like to see animals, travel 13.5 miles to Godrevy National Trust where you can spot wild seals, go surfing and find stone age settlements, or try National Trust Lizard Point for grey seals, basking sharks, Cornish choughs, porpoises, sunfish, dolphins and whales. Penwith Heritage Coast has wild ponies and castle ruins. Alternatively, visit the Cornish Seal Sanctuary for sea lions, penguins, otters and more seals.
