Both Carlyon Bay and Porthpean Beach are less close by. Both the pretty and obscure Hemmick Beach and secret Caerhays Castle are a great amble around the head at Dodman Point. Visit the fishing port of Par, Polkerris Beach or Fowey (all under 8 miles). It's 27 miles down to Falmouth Harbour or 19 miles up to the north coast town of Newquay, famous for its surfer culture and great beach.
