Quaint and characterful Marazion is a wonderfully dog-friendly town and resort to visit with your four-legged friend, with walks, beauty spots and attractions all around – but best of all are the enchanting beaches that are scattered along this coastline.
You can enjoy a host of delightful days out by the sea from one of our bases at Marazion, and we’ve collated our favourites below. And with the South West Coast Path to explore and charming pubs and restaurants in town, you’re sure to enjoy a great break in this coastal destination.

Marazion Beach and St Michael’s Mount
One of the most iconic Cornwall dog-friendly beaches due to the magical view across to St Michael’s Mount, Marazion Beach is a fine, sandy beach that stretches for 2 miles.
Marazion Town Beach can be accessed from the Godolphin steps, the slipway on the seafront car park, or anywhere along the promenade and play area. There are dunes and a small river, and midway between Marazion and Long Rock, there’s the excellent Jordan’s Café, which does amazing cakes and coffees as well as a takeaway Sunday lunch to eat on the beach!
You are welcome to walk across the causeway to visit St Michael’s Mount harbour, shops, and cafes, but once on the island please make sure your dog is on lead. You cannot take your dog into the grounds of the castle, but you can still experience the wonder of the island and its magnificent harbour setting.
Good to know:
Seasonal daytime dog restrictions on Town Beach from 1 May to 30 September between 8am to 7pm. You are allowed to walk across the Causeway to St Michael's Mount at low tide with your dog.
Gwelva Beach
The stone and pebbly beach to the east of the Castle Causeway (that’s on your left when looking at the castle) is known as Gwelva Beach. This charming little cove can be accessed from the causeway or from the Godolphin steps or the ‘Gwelva’, which is the middle ferry landing in the centre of Marazion.
Good to know:
Dogs are permitted on Gwelva Beach to the east (left) of the causeway at any time of the year.
Long Rock Beach
This long, sand and stone beach sweeps around the coast from Marazion to Penzance – why not enjoy a beach walk into lovely Penzance for lunch during your stay? It backs onto the railway line in places so keep an eye out for trains passing by, the water is shallow and it’s a popular beach with windsurfers.
Good to know:
Dogs are welcome all year to the west/Penzance side of the car park, while the east side of the car park has a seasonal dog ban in place.
Perranuthnoe Beach
This charming sand and shingle beach is set 1 mile from Marazion Beach and boasts views over to the magnificent castle of St Michael’s Mount. Access is via steep steps or a slipway and, with western winds coming in, it’s a lovely one for surfers.
Good to know:
Dogs are welcome in the cooler months and there is a seasonal dog ban on this beach between 1 July and 31 August, from 10am - 6pm each day.
Prussia Cove
Escape to this hidden gem for peaceful dog-friendly days off the beaten track, although it can get busy during the summer months. It’s a small, sand and rocky beach 3 miles from Marazion and a wonderful place for a paddle or rock pooling while your dog explores on the sand and shingle.
Good to know:
You’ll be pleased to find out that dogs are welcome all year round at scenic Prussia Cove.
Praa Sands
A fantastic sandy beach with some good facilities including a surf shop and beachside bar, you can take the whole family down to this enchanting spot for traditional days by the sea with the dog in tow. It’s a good spot for surfing or sandcastle building, and the South West Coast Path lines this entire coast so don’t forget to head out on a seaside stroll too during your time here.
Good to know:
There is a seasonal dog ban on Praa Sands between 1 July and 31 August from 10am - 6pm.
