Visit England Working on Promotion of the South West
Visit England is working on a new scheme to promote the South West to an international audience, urging visitors to flock to one of the UK's most scenic regions.
Cornwall has always been a popular holiday destination amongst those in the UK, with thousands choosing to visit and enjoy a stay in the regions Cornwall cottages every year, but its international draw has been somewhat limited by a lack of promotion outside the country.
Visit England is looking to correct this by promoting the region as a 'touring region' and raising awareness overseas. The national tourism body is currently in talks with government to secure funding for the project and it's hoped that they can have similar success to the scheme they ran last year for a number of the UK's largest cities.
If the scheme is successful, the region should see an increase in foreign visitor numbers, which were just 729,000 in 2011 – or 1 in 10 of the overall number of visitors to the UK.
