St Columb Major is a small old Cornish market town located about 5 miles inland and surrounded by beautiful partly wooded countryside. The centre of the town is still largely un-spoilt and retains many of its traditional shops and pubs. It is 5 miles from the sea and beaches including the wonderful surfing beach of Watergate Bay. Both the immediate rural area and the nearby spectacular coastline are ideal for people who love walking. The pretty fishing port of Padstow, just 7 miles, includes old narrow streets, many places to eat, including Rick Stein's famous Seafood restaurant, and a busy little harbour.  For those who prefer a busier location with some nightlife Newquay is only about 7 miles away. This area is a good base to explore many of the attractions Cornwall has to offer including the famous Eden Project which is less than 15 miles away.  Newquay Bay, Watergate Bay and Mawgan Porth are the nearest beaches to St Columb.  Mawgan Porth is not only home to Merlin golf club (visit the golf page), but also to King Surf School.  A BSA Approved School that's a fantastic base right on the beach.  The equipment and full insurance are included in the price.  There's also a full range of surf hire equipment.
