Mayview Cottage is a
delightful example of a tiny Cornish cottage built on the coast road right
next to the church and the pub in the original centre of the village of St
Merryn, although nowadays the centre is considered to be 600 hundred yards
up the road at the “Shop” crossroads. Overlooking fields to the rear
Mayview Cottages, which apparently dates back to the 14th Century, was
originally a two-up-two-down, built in stone and slate and having beamed
ceilings. Much of this original character can still be seen in spite of
the addition of a small kitchen and bathroom. This means, of course, you
need to watch out for narrow door openings, low headroom and steep
stairs. Mayview Cottage is a 20 minute walk to Harlyn Bay – one of a
number of glorious sandy beaches nearby - and only just over a 5 minute
walk to the restaurants of St Merryn (one of which has a Michelin star)
and the local shops. However, if you are feeling tired after your
exertions all day on the beach the Cornish Arms is right on your
doorstep! The picturesque town of
Padstow is
only three miles. Please note that Bed.2 is unsuitable for toddlers since
it is open to the stairs with an extremely small landing and large gaps
between the balustrading.
