This beautiful retreat on the edge of rugged Bodmin Moor offers an ideal holiday base for a family or friends who love the outdoor life. The stone-built cottage has a wealth of wonderful walking trails from the doorstep across the wild moorland landscape. Golden beaches on both the north and south coast are within easy reach, while the historic market town of Launceston (7 miles) has a good array of independent shops and eateries, plus a ruined Norman castle.
Your rural hideaway is one of four similar holiday homes set in the grounds of a country estate. Original beams and whitewashed walls are a perfect backdrop to the stylish contemporary interior. The ground floor houses a sleek family bathroom and two inviting bedrooms: a double and a twin. Upstairs, the charming, open-plan living space beneath a vaulted ceiling has comfortable seating, a kitchen and a dining area, with French doors opening onto a Juliet balcony. Outside is outdoor dining furniture with a BBQ, a shared games room, a children’s play area and a fenced orchard for pets. A path leads to the banks of the private River Lynher. Please note, the mobile signal is variable and there is ample private parking.
Untamed Bodmin Moor is rich in prehistoric stones for keen walkers to explore, such as the ancient Nine Stones Circle at Alturnan (4 miles). You can view the moor’s hidden valleys and streams from the saddle on a pony trek or jump on your bike for a tranquil ride along quiet country lanes. Take a journey on the vintage Launceston Steam Railway (dogs on short leads are welcome), while Launceston’s fascinating Pop-Up Museum is sure to delight children. When beach days beckon, head for surfing favourite Trebarwith Strand (16 miles) on the north coast, or Looe (20 miles) to the south.
