  • Romantic bolthole by the sea for couples who enjoy being in the heart of town

Property code: OC-PORTHI

This sweet home-away-from-home in the heart of St Ives makes the perfect bolthole for couples looking for a traditional Cornish getaway. Spend your days strolling around the town’s cute, cobbled streets - popping into galleries, boutiques, and eateries - before heading down to one of St Ives’ iconic sandy beaches for a spot of sunbathing and splashing in the turquoise waters. In the evenings, return to your cosy bolthole to cook up a storm in the stylish kitchen, followed by a movie night on the sofa.

The ground-floor apartment is in a quaint fisherman’s cottage. However, once inside, you’ll discover a sleek and stylish living space, with contemporary furniture and accessories. The spacious lounge/kitchen/diner is bright and airy, with a sumptuous sofa to snuggle up on to watch the Smart TV and a cute dining table by the window for sharing romantic dinners for two. When it’s time for bed, retire to the relaxing double bedroom, which has a handy en-suite shower room. There is no outside space with this property, but with the harbour and sandy beaches within 500 metres, you’ll have plenty of scenic spots to stretch your legs and fill your lungs with sea air.

The cottage is set in the town’s old fishing quarter, and you’ll be surrounded by a fabulous selection of independent restaurants, many serving delicious, fresh seafood. A short stroll from the cottage brings you to the historic harbour (500 metres), where you can catch boat trips to go wildlife watching along the coast or visit Seal Island to marvel at the colony of grey seals. There’s also a lovely beach here, which is popular with bathers. Other nearby beaches include Porthgwidden and Porthmeor, both within 500 metres.

The cottage is in a very good location, it's spacious and tidy, apart from ensuite of which needs an update, unfortunately we had noisy tenants above us which wasn't very nice. It's a very busy road with lots of comings and goings.

This is our first time staying at Porthia flat and on Island road, having visited St Ives for many years. The accommodation is lovely, and perfect size for 2 (& dog), with all you'd need for a comfortable holiday. The electrical equipment all looks quite new and clean, Smart Tv in front room and bedroom, microwave, Oven, Fridge, with enough room thRead moreroughout to not feel cramped. The Bathroom is quite tired, and could do with an update. Some tiles look to be coming away from the walls, some of the fixtures are starting to rust, and some mould around the grout and curtain rail. I am 6ft 2" and cannot stand up fully in the shower by approximately 1 inch (rest of the bathroom is fine) as my head is on the shower ceiling, meaning the shower head is face height. There is also a small step out of the shower which is not big enough for a towel, so always wet/slippery when showering, which some may struggle with. However the water was always hot when required, easy to use, sink and toilet were clean. We found the front door lock to be intermittent and took several attempts for the barrel to actually engage and lock the door from both directions. We also found Island road to be very busy with people on foot, and vehicles up and down most of the time. Our first couple of days we never really noticed anyone above, but I think they may have changed over half way through as it got louder and more noticeable towards the end of the week. All in all, I would give 8/10 and definitely recommend Porthia flat to couples wanting to get away. Hide

The cottage has very low ceilings and definitely not suitable for anyone over 6feet tall. I'm only 5 ft 3 inches and I could touch the ceiling. Also if you don't mind the noise from tenants renting above you - it actually got on my nerves as I could hear everything and even them walking around was so loud!... The shower was weak and hardly any preRead moressure also it was a tiny space. I couldn't even wash my hair properly. No windows that open so I had to leave the front door open which isn't ideal if you have a dog because cars and vehicles are driving pass constantly. It has no pavements so the cars can knock you down as you come out. Hide
